What is Food Savvy?
Food Savvy is a website and mobile app that provides local food deals that are beneficial for both customers and restaurants.
What is the problem?
There are a lot of working professional who eats out regularly. These people spend a lot of money on food and often it is one of the biggest monthly expenses for them. And there are a lot of restaurants that at the end of the day throw away a lot of food because it is hard to predict how many customers they will get? Planning for an uncertain number of people often leads to more stock than what is needed.
I want to work on an idea where people who eat out regularly will be able to get food for the cheaper price and restaurants will have a better way to predict the demand and avoid wasting food every day.
Here are the features of Food Savvy:
- Subscription only model: where both consumers and restaurants subscribe to the service in order to receive great benefits. Subscription helps in differentiating the service from general food deals and helps in offering a better discount.
- Future deals with specific dates: deals will be offered for specific dates so the restaurant can better plan for that day based on the demand. It will help in reducing the waste and making the food price cheaper because restaurants can operate on low and predictable margin but high volume.
- Real-Time Deal: We can also offer a real-time deal based on food stock and demand for a day. Restaurants can offer additional deals if they think that they may have more stock than needed for that day. These deals will be near the closing time of the restaurant during lunch and dinner. And this can help restaurants avoid throwing the remaining food away and reduce the operating expenses.
Who does Food Savvy serve to?
- Consumers: Mostly busy people who eat out on a regular basis. I think the appropriate demographic would be people in the age group 20 to 40 years old.
- Restaurant owners: Restaurants owners with unpredictable demand.
